In addition to our Face Fit – Train the Tester (Qualitative) course, Groundforce Training offers a comprehensive Qualitative Face Fit Testing Service. This service involves a practical, on-site testing process to ensure that disposable half-masks and re-usable half-mask respirators provide an effective seal.
Service Overview:
- Testing Method: The qualitative testing process relies on the individual's sense of taste to assess the mask's seal quality. This method uses a strong-tasting agent, such as a bitter or sweet solution, to detect potential leaks in the mask’s fit.
- Procedure:
- The test begins by determining the subject's sensitivity to the test solution without the mask.
- Once sensitivity is established, the subject dons the mask, and the solution is introduced again while the subject performs basic movements to simulate work conditions.
- If the subject detects the solution’s taste during this phase, the mask's seal is deemed ineffective.
Key Points:
- The test adheres to the seven-test exercise protocol outlined in INDG 479.
- Suitable for testing filtering facepieces (disposable masks) and half masks only.
- Each test requires approximately 30 minutes per individual.
Pre-Test Information:
- Participants must be medically fit as per INDG479 guidelines.
- No smoking, vaping, eating, or drinking (except non-flavoured water) for one hour prior to testing.
- Basic knowledge of RPE is recommended. Training can be provided if required.
- All individuals must be clean-shaven to ensure an effective mask seal.
Note: Face Fit Testing is conducted by a Fit2Fit Accredited Provider, although the training itself is not Fit2Fit accredited.
If your organisation prefers not to train internal testers, we can perform the Qualitative Face Fit Testing for you on-site, ensuring the highest level of safety and compliance.
