This safety course provides a vital foundation of knowledge for candidates who need to get to grips with the concepts and complexities of Horizontal Directional Drilling. Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a construction technique whereby a tunnel is drilled under a waterway or other designated area, and a pipeline or other utility is pulled through the drilled underground tunnel.

  • Discuss Open Trench vs Trenchless
  • Differentiate between and openly discuss various soil types and ground conditions
  • Understand safe and correct operational procedures for HDD
  • Recognise the importance of surface tracking and location of underground apparatus for utilities
  • Understand how HDD can be implemented and when it may be best considered as an option
  • Become familiarised with Drill Rig Operator & Receiver Operator responsibilities
