NPORS N101 Mobile Crane Training Course

This training course is for operators who require or have a desire to take the relevant test in order to gain a NPORS operator card for Mobile Cranes.

Course Objectives

  • Understand the roles / responsibilities, dangers and duties associated with the role of a plant operator
  • Identify the main components, their applications, controls and associated terminology
  • Interpret documentation effectively, including user manuals etc. to prepare for work
  • Interpret and follow recognised signals and instructions
  • Display the ability to use the machine to safely traverse in a laden or unladen state over undulating or level terrain and in confined spaces
  • Set up and configure the machine / undertake pre-use checks to prepare for highway, site travel and lifting duties
  • Lift in a variety of situations, utilising the full slewing and radius limits of the crane
  • Perform lifting activities, including rope fall adjustment on a hook block, accurate load placing, managing load swinging and movement of loads through machine travel
  • Utilise outriggers (where applicable)
  • Configure Rated Capacity Indicators
  • Fit fly jibs or boom extensions, using rigging and de-rigging methods
  • Be aware of the hazards of overhead and buried services and their management
  • Maintain tidy and safe areas of work
  • Prepare / dismantle the machine to prepare for movement
  • Demonstrate and safely carry out both shut down and securing procedures

Certification

Upon successful completion of both the theory & practical tests the NPORS Operator Card is awarded, valid for three years.

Teaching and Assessment

  • 10 day combination of classroom based teaching and practical activity
  • Candidates will demonstrate their skills, knowledge and understanding through a series of practical and theory tests assigned by the tester

Entry Requirements

CITB Health, Safety and Environment test completed and passed within the last two years before the course start date or NPORS test date.
