CPCS A36 Lorry Loader (HIAB)

This training course is for excavator operators who require or have a desire to take the relevant CPCS Test in order to gain a RED Trained operator card for A36 Lorry Loaders.

Course Objectives

  • Define roles and responsibilities of plant operators within the industry
  • Understand fully the controls and terminology utilised by a competent operator
  • Prepare the Lorry Loader for travel both on the road and on site
  • Explore and analyse important legislation, guidance, and regulations
  • Carry out pre-use checks and check equipment for function and serviceability
  • Display the ability to manoeuvre the carrier vehicle for lifting activities
  • Operate and manoeuvre safely and efficiently within confined spaces
  • Understand the requirement to identify hazards such as underground and overhead services
  • Configure the Lorry Loader to achieve minimum and maximum slewing radii
  • Load and stack items onto the bed of the vehicle in line with industry standards
  • Use stabilisers as necessary to facilitate safe lifting and manoeuvring
  • Understand centre of gravity limitations and unbalanced lifting principles
  • Understand rated capacity indicators for lifting
  • Gain knowledge of lifting accessories and their correct application
  • Clearly understand the loading and unloading process
  • Determine how to correct a swinging load
  • Follow appropriate shut down and securing procedures

Certification

Upon successful completion of both the theory & practical tests the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) Red Trained Operators Card is awarded, valid for two years.

Two Part Testing

1. Theory Test – a verbal 1:1 with questions asked by the CPCS tester.

2. CPCS Practical Test: Candidates will demonstrate their skills knowledge and understanding through a series of practical tasks assigned by the tester.

Entry Requirements

CITB Health, Safety and Environment test completed and passed within the last two years before the course start date or CPCS test date.
