When pressure testing polyethylene pipelines, we recommend the introduction of Pipeline Pigs ahead of the water column to assist in removing any air, especially where the pipeline undulates.

Pipeline Pigs or swabs are a low-cost solution for preparing your pipeline for further commissioning works. We offer a range of sizes, typically from 50mm to 600mm, but we can also cater to bespoke sizes.

We also supply pipeline pigs which are available to suit most applications, wiping, swabbing drying and cleaning.

What are Pipeline Pigs used for?

Pipeline Pigs (also known as Foam Pigs) can be used to clear debris and other solids from pipe walls or within the pipe itself. They can also be used to purge air from pipelines ahead of pressure testing, which ensures safe completion of the commissioning procedure.

Typically, pigs are pushed through the pipeline using water or air, and captured at a designated point in the run. We can also supply Trackable Pipeline Pigs which can be traced through the pipeline using a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) and are an ideal solution for locating blockages without exposing an entire pipeline.

Pipeline Pigs can be used in the water, construction, housing or energy sectors where pipeline integrity is important to site operations and safety.

Trackable Pipeline Pigs

Trackable Pipeline Pigs, or Trackable Swabs, are an advanced method of locating an internal obstruction / blockage of pipes. This technique involves using adapted Pipeline Pigs and self-contained transmitters called Sondes which are inserted into a cavity inside the Swab. Blockages can be located by pushing the Swab and Sonde assembly (Trackable Pipeline Pig) through the pipe until it meets an obstruction and stops. That position can then be detected and located using a cable and pipe detection locator such as a Cable Avoidance Tool (C.A.T.) by an operator above ground.At the point of obstruction a small section then can be isolated for investigation rather than having to dig out the entire pipe run which may run along a road or in a built up or inaccessible area. Airtest Stopper

The new Airtest Stopper covers pipes ranging from 300mm to 700mm with only two sizes.

Milltest Stoppers

Designed for use when air testing drainage pipes to a standard air test of 100mm of water over air. Milltest Air test stoppers are very light and easily transported, making them ideal for testing awkward to reach locations.
