Build a Box Shoring

Box shoring is a type of excavation reinforcement which is most commonly used to secure lateral trench walls. They’re ideal for use when the excavation site floor is unstable, as they work by using spring mounted spindles and can be installed using a straightforward cut and lower technique. This also helps to minimise the size of the excavation area, which means the surrounding environment is less impacted than it otherwise might have been.

arrying out excavations can be time consuming and costly, and pose many risks to the construction workers who work on them. However, using a box shoring will help to ensure that your excavation project is carried out quickly, efficiently and, above all, safely.

The Benefits of Using Box Shoring

Box shoring tends to be lightweight and relatively inexpensive, which makes it the ideal solution for smaller construction projects. Depending on the type of project you’re undertaking, it is possible to reduce the cost of your excavation project even further by opting for a backhoe drag box or other drag box type which can be pulled along as your excavation progresses, thereby doing away with the need to rent or purchase multiple shoring structures. Other types of box shoring include:

  • Backhoe Manhole Box – ideal for installing pre-cast manhole rings without the need to alter trench width
  • Mini and Standard Trench Boxes – durable and versatile, suitable for almost any type of excavation up to 4.0m
  • Rolling Strut Trench Box – rolling struts allow system plates to move independently during installation and removal. Additional handling points for safe assembly.

Building Your Box Shoring

Box shoring can be easily installed using pre-made configurations constructed by professional excavation companies. This is probably the easiest way to ensure that the shoring you use for your construction project are of the highest quality possible. It’s also possible to order custom built box shoring to suit specific requirements, which is ideal for more challenging excavations.

When choosing the type of box shoring you will use, it’s important to take into consideration every aspect of your planned excavation. Box shoring is versatile and great for use in open areas, but they can also be cumbersome to manoeuvre and their use is restricted by very specific load requirements. It’s vital that you check with the manufacturer before installing a box shore or any related component, to make sure that the structure you’re installing is able to provide your site with an adequate amount of reinforcement.
